Power cable accessories are the products connecting cables with transmission and distribution lines and related distribution devices, generally referring to the intermediate connection and terminal connection of various cables in the cable line, which together with the cable constitute the power transmission network.

Cable accessories are mainly based on the characteristics of cable structure. It can not only restore the performance of cable, but also ensure the extension of cable length and terminal connection. The reliability of high voltage cable accessories can be evaluated from the aspects of electrical performance, sealing and moisture-proof performance, mechanical performance and technological performance.

Connection mode

The connection modes of cable accessories are generally divided into terminal connection and intermediate connection, and terminal connection is divided into indoor termination and outdoor termination. Generally, the outdoor termination refers to the outdoor cable connector, and the indoor termination refers to the connector of the indoor cable and the electrical equipment. The intermediate connection is divided into straight through type and insulation type.

Supporting Equipment

This quality assurance program should include at least the following :

(1) Before leaving the factory, the key parts (such as rubber stress cone, epoxy resin sleeve of GIS, impregnation agent, prefabricated parts of intermediate joint, etc.) should be strictly tested. Carefully check whether the test and measuring equipment is reliable.Pay attention to whether the test method is effective, whether the test personnel are well trained and whether the test records are complete.

(2) Check whether the installation and construction personnel dispatched by the manufacturer have got strict training and sufficient construction experience.

(3) Check whether the coordination between different departments  is good.

(4) Previous sales and operation records.

Accessories Types

There are many kinds of cable accessories.With different types of characteristics and limitations, generally it can not replace each other. Common types are as follows :

(1) Wrapping Type : Cable accessories made of rubber strip (self-adhesive) are called wrapping type cable accessories. The accessories are easy to loose, poor fire resistance, short life.

(2) Watering Type : With thermosetting resin as the main material in the field of watering. The selected materials are epoxy resin, polyurethane, acrylic acid, etc. The fatal disadvantage of this type of attachment is that it is easy to produce bubbles when curing.

(3) Molded Type: It is mainly used for the middle connection of the cable.Molding and heating are carried out on site, and then cable is integrated. The production process of the accessories is complicated and takes long time, so it is not suitable for the terminal joint.

(4) Cold Shrinkage Type : Elastomer such as silicone rubber and EPDM is pre-expanded in the factory and formed by adding plastic support strips. In the field construction, the support strip is extracted to make the pipe shrink on the cable under the inherent elastic effect of rubber, and the cable accessories are made. The accessories are most suitable for the construction places that can not be heated by open fire, such as mining, petrochemical industry, etc.

(5) Heat shrinkage type : The rubber and plastic alloy is made into different component products with shape memory effect, and the accessories are made by heating and shrinking on the cable in the field. The accessory has the advantages of light weight, simple and convenient construction, reliable operation and low price.

(6) Prefabricated type : Accessories made of silicone rubber injection into different components.One-time vulcanization molding, only retaining the contact interface, and inserting cables during field construction. The construction process can reduce the unmeasurable adverse factors in the environment to a minimum degree, which makes accessories have great potential use value.It is the development direction of crosslinked cable accessories, but the manufacturing technology is difficult, involving a variety of disciplines and industries. The installation materials of the prefabricated accessories below the three branches of the cable and the shield mouth are still made of heat-shrinkable materials, so it is actually a combination of prefabricated and heat-shrinkable.
